Get Up Early, Have More Time – For What?

The belief that getting up early will magically transform your life is popular.
From Franklin’s “Early to bed and early to rise…” to “Early bird catches the worm” to people like Jocko Willink getting up at 4:30 a.m. to take extreme ownership of their lives and crush it, the idea has quite the pedigree.

If it fits into your biology, if you do it appropriately so you still get enough sleep… it can still leave you in trouble.

You will also need to know, to decide, why you get up so early and what you get done in that time!

Look around at the advice it is so popular to give and to seek, and you will find a plethora of things people do with the early, undisturbed time they gain by getting up earlier than others.

Some go and work out immediately.
Others, apparently, “Shit, shower, shave.”
Some get to the most important thing they have to do for the day.
Writers typically try to use that time to write before other(‘s) demands disturb their flow.

Everything sounds like a good idea, but of course you will not be able to do everything.

You will have to be strategic about this early time, have a process, and stick to what you decided to do.

Otherwise, it is just too easy to remain undecided. And then, the time you gained will probably have been nothing but another hour you spent on what came easiest.
